Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI
When you’re not the flagship of a public system, you can have "sibling rivalries" or constantly make comparisons. But the team at Ferris State University embraced change and made improvements to their campus visit at warp speed. With an economy that booms and busts with the auto industry and declining high school graduate demographics, Michigan higher education is competitive. An impressive campus with a happy student body, the Admission Office at Ferris State has always made the campus visit a priority— but they wanted to make it even better.
The Render team conducted a campus visit consult and Render team members visited at various stages. We provided a detailed audit and the visit team immediately prioritized what they could improve, what required us to help "make the ask" of approval/budget from leadership, and that which required support from others across campus.
We also conducted our "Steps to Being Memorable" workshop with their student guides to inspire them to be master storytellers, have fun, and to affirm how important their role is. Returning to campus, we presented "It Takes a Campus" (To Stage a Campus Visit) for invited faculty and staff to help raise the profile of the campus visit and their role within it.
Changes to the tour route, new way-finding banners, updates to the visit center and information session all have updated the campus visit for a new generation of parents and students visiting Big Rapids and Ferris State. Evaluations reflect that the consult is very positively impacting enrollment already.
